Spring 2016 Class Schedule

1.  Line Dancing with Warren and Joan Harvey: This class is for both beginners and experienced dancers. Come join in the fun and comradery. Wednesdays March 23 to May 18, 6:00-8:00 PM at the Fort Kent Senior Center

 

2.  The Effects of 9/11on Borderlands Communities with Lisa Lavoie: Learn how these communities were affected by  the boundary settlement of 1842 and by the events of September 11, 2001. Tuesday April 5, 1:00- 3:00PM at UMFK Cyr Hall Room 205

 

3.  The Ukulele with Roger Damboise: Enjoy a demonstration, learn about types of ukuleles, and decide if you would like to learn how to play this easy instrument. (No instrument needed) Saturday April 16, 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the Fort Kent Senior Center



4.  Learning to play the Ukulele with Roger Damboise:  In two sessions Roger will teach the basics so you can tune the ukulele, strum, play chords, and even play simple songs. You will need to bring your own ukulele. Saturdays May 7 & 28, 10:00- 11:00 AM at the Fort Kent Senior Center. The times have been changed to Saturdays May 14 and 28, 10:00 - 11:00 AM at the Fort Kent Senior Center.


5.  Advanced Directives: End of Life Choices with Marsha Labbe, NMMC:  Advance directives are legal documents that allow you to spell out your decisions about end-of-life care ahead of time. We will be discussing step-by­ step how to complete the forms and update information on advanced directives. Tuesday April 19, 1:00-3:00 PM  at UMFK Nadeau Hall Conference Room.


6.  WWI: Causes and Effects with Erica Nadelhaft: Politics and diplomacy that led to this conflict, and its effects on the political and human landscape. Wednesday April 20, 1:00-3:00 PM at UMFK Cyr Hall Room 201.


7.  Early Heresies about Christ with Father James Nadeau: False teachings about the nature of Christ forced the church to define matters of faith, the faith that Christians still profess today. Thursday April 28, 1:00-3:00 PM at UMFK Cyr  Hall Room 205.


8.  Smart Phones with Chaz Pelletier: Learn how to perform basic functions on your smart phone. Bring you phone, charger, email address and password. Participation is limited so be sure to register early. Wednesday May 11, 1:00- 3:00PM at UMFK Cyr Hall Room 201.


9.  News on the Internet with Andrew Birden: This class will provide a hands-on approach to finding reliable news on the internet. Participation is limited so be sure to register early. Wednesday May 18, 9:30-11:30 AM at UMFK Old Model School, Room 100.


10. Fiddlers and Fiddlehead Festival at the Patten's Lumbermen's Museum with Don Murray: Visit the museum and enjoy music and food at the festival. Saturday May 21. Carpools will depart UMFK Sports Center parking at

10:00 AM; return at 6:00PM.


11. Four Corners Park in Madawaska: Receive a guided tour of the Four Corners Park, learn about the 4-Corners, the "X” Tours, and visit the CMA Acadian section. Wednesday June 1.   Carpools will depart UMFK Sports Center parking at 1:15PM; return at 4:00PM.


12. Deboulie Mountain Trip Preview with Don Murray: Attend this information session to learn about and reserve your place on the Deboulie Mtn. trip to take place in the fall. Thursday June 2, 6:00PM at the Fort Kent Senior Center. The time has been changed to Friday June 3, 4:00PM at the Fort Kent Senior Center.


13. Tour of the Caribou Weather Station: See the inner workings at the weather station and view the launch of the daily weather balloon. Tuesday June 7, Carpools will depart UMFK Sports Center parking at 4:00PM; return at 8:00PM.


14. Four Wheeler/Side by-Side Ride:  Experience a ride on a side-by-side four wheeler. Have lunch at the Lakeview and return. Participation is limited so be sure to register early. Wednesday June 15, 10:00-2:00, meet a John's Shurfine on Market Street.


15. Frenchville Fish Farm with Gary Picard: Tour the fish farm with a question and answer period. This is just a tour, there will be NO fishing. Saturday June 25, Carpools will depart UMFK Sports Center parking at 9:00AM.


Your membership fee of $15 per term includes tuition for all classes that term. Please purchase your membership and pre-register for classes at least two weeks prior to the class date. To register, bring payment to the MSAD #27 Continuing Education Office at FKCHS or call 834-3536.
